I'd sure like to test ride her...Link
Starting at $19,995 in the US, Beemer will compete with the LT ($17,000).
And weighs only 740 lbs (336 kg) @ 160 HP!

Looks like a cross between the Honda FB6 and the Guzzi MGX-21

I like the look

BMW are excellent bikes. I have ridden and test ridden several, and they, as well as the cars, same brand, are drivers rides. BUT it's still only a rolling computer, lots of technology, no soul, no heritage.

On top off that, it is not possible to alter, add, or change anything that has to do with electrics. You can't even change a light bowl, without having the stealer reset the computer.

I don't like vehicles that I can't mess with, and maybe I am just nostalgic, but I still prefer a Triumph any day.

Agreed, rolling computer But I may have to make an exception here. The only thing Thunderbird and K1600B have in common is two wheels. For sure the Bird's classic lines, simplicity and soul will always command attention but I'm talking about the ultimate "riding" experience in a bagger. :)

Wow, I really like that. I still love my Storm but I'm looking at moving to a full bagger in a few years and this is definitely something I want to look at and ride. I was leaning toward and Indian Roadmaster but this just became an interesting alternative.

That's what I'm thinking (and keep the Triumph).

The BMW bagger is probably on Dave's research list...it checks all the boxes.

Price Range
Functionality
Power
Shaft Drive
Warranty (3yr/36k std)
Low Seat
Ergonomics
Wow Factor

Not the bmw bagger but same 1600

Hattech

btw, Triumph's notion of a bagger (LT or Rocket Touring) isn't great imo...

The BMW is actually quite a nice machine. I have looked at em,but they set WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too high for me as I can barely reach the ground when sitting on em.[Ya need like a 40 inch inseam. lol] And then, the fuckin parts for it cost an unholy fortune,[ya need to be rich, lol] so that makes it WAAAAAAAAAAY outta my league. But if ya have a lot of money, and ,especially loooooooooooooooooooooooon legs, lol, then that machine is for you!! Dave!!!

I really like the look of this bike. Something about the bagger look appeals to me. I have ridden the Honda F6B and found it to be a great ride but I am after something a bit different. The Beemer could fit the bill nicely. They will be around $28,000 when they hit Australia and they have a good dealership network and 160HP does have appeal. That with my bird will give me around 330HP combined...something to ponder.

Rented a BMW 1600 in Hawaii and it's a nice bike but waaayy to much electronics and too much shit to go wrong. And after seeing the satisfaction ratings on a different site and the BMW had issues with all that.

If I was looking for a different bike I may do what another member here did and look at the Yamaha FJR 1300.

I have good news, the new seat height is lower at 30.7" (780 mm). Parts?? You're not wrenching on it like the SE and BMW offers a 3 yr warranty...just ride her.

Dave,

You get bikes so much cheaper in the USA. $25,000 is cheap for that bike. We are paying around $22,000 for the Thunderbirds here and up to $55 k for the Harley CVOs. I would love to be able to get bikes and cars in Australia as cheaply as you can over there,

Steve

$25 k is competitive for all it offers. If you're going to buy a Harley or an Indian with all those features you're going to end up spending that much or more. My buddy, who is a die hard Harley guy, dropped $40k on a new Harley last year. He bought a CVO Limited brand new. Now he rides enough to make it worth his while but I can't see dumping that much on a bike. However $25k is right in the wheel house of what I'll likely drop on my next bike because I'd like to get a full dresser with fairing, locking hard bags, all the modern electronics, etc. But when I do that I'll also likely pick up a Bonnie or something for bombing around town. The big bike will be for the long haul rides. But the way I have my Storm set up right now is perfect so I'll just keep socking money away in the "Next Bike" fund.

I don't think 25k is your typical otd price ...that guy probably added upgrades. And dealer charges, incentives, sales tax vary depending on where you purchase the bike. MSRP is a good way to compare apples to apples; Triumph LT $17,000 (2 yr warranty), Yamaha FJR 1300ES $17,999 (1 yr warranty), BMW K 1600 B $19,995 (3 yr warranty).
